Surveillance Vehicles

So just what is the best kind of surveillance vehicle?  What do the spies use?  Or Private Investigators?  The answer is probably the opposite of what you think.

If you make your assumptions based on what you see in the movies or on television, then the spies are slipping right under your nose.  Professional government surveillance teams don’t drive big American cars, like the Police Specials we are so used to seeing on TV.  They don’t drive blacked-out Suburbans or flashy sports cars either.

The fact is, they want to fit in to the neighborhood where they re working, not stand out.  They don’t want anyone to look at them as say “there’s a spy!”  The same goes for P.I.s. Don't expect to see a Ferrari (like Magnum PI).  And if you see a unmarked police type vehicle with big antennas parked on your street, it is probably a traffic cop doing a radar trap, not someone spying on you.

To figure out what the spies are driving, just look and see what the most popular cars are in your area.  In the suburbs of America, spies drive SUVs and minivans, as well as compact Japanese cars.   Forget the Suburban- If I see a couple of guys sitting in a minivan outside my house, I would start to get really concerned.  They are probably the spies.

You might think all this sounds unlikely, but have you ever met a spy?  Did one ever sit beside you on the train?  Have you been stuck in a traffic jam with one?  Well, the answer is you will never know because they look just like you do, drive what you do and try very hard to be “ordinary” just like the rest of us.
